Cowboys Are Frequently, Secretly (Fond of Each Other)
Cowboys Are Frequently, Secretly (Fond Of Each Other)
On Valentine’s Day 2006, Howard Stern debuted the new, and quite timely, song from Willie Nelson titled “Cowboys Are Secretly, Frequently (Fond Of Each Other)” during his Sirius Satellite Radio morning program.
“Cowboys Are Secretly, Frequently (Fond Of Each Other)” was written in 1981 by Texas-born, NYC resident musician/songwriter Ned Sublette, long before gay cowboys were the current topic of conversation. Nelson recorded the song last year during an iTunes Originals session at his Perdernales, TX studio. This is the first time Nelson’s version has been released.
Since everyone is talking about the acclaimed film Brokeback Mountain and its Academy Award nominations, Valentine’s Day seemed like the right time to let “Cowboys Are Secretly, Frequently (Fond Of Each Other)” be heard, and Howard Stern seemed the right man to debut it. Also, Nelson first mentioned the song on Stern’s program nearly a year ago. Coincidentally, Nelson contributed a song to the soundtrack of the film with his rendition of “He Was A Friend Of Mine”.
Lost Highway will release “Cowboys Are Secretly, Frequently (Fond Of Each Other)” exclusively through iTunes beginning on Valentine’s Day, February 14. Plans for a video by the Broken Lizard Comedy Troupe (Super Troopers, Club Dread) are in the works as well. The video will also be available for purchase exclusively through iTunes in the spring. Stay tuned.
